"The Abundance of the Free Favour of the Lord." Luke 4:18-19
Hi Visitor,
Empathy is not a one-time act; it is a daily choice to understand others beyond their actions. True empathy is proactive. It pays attention, asks questions, and holds space for the pain, joy, or silence of others. When you live empathetically, you shift from reacting to responding.
Jesus modelled daily empathy. Whether healing the sick, feeding the hungry, or pausing to listen to the rejected, He walked with people in their pain. In John 11:35, “Jesus wept.” This was not just sympathy. It was shared sorrow. He felt deeply, even though He was about to raise Lazarus. That moment showed us the power of being present in someone’s emotions.
Living empathy means slowing down. It means valuing people over opinions and recognising that everyone is fighting unseen battles. You may not change the situation, but your empathy can change the atmosphere. In every interaction, choose compassion over correction, and connection over criticism.
Think about someone in your life who needs more understanding than answers. What could change if you chose to listen longer and speak less? Your silence may heal more than your words.
Make a conscious effort today to pause before judging, listen before speaking, and understand before acting. Your consistent empathy can become a source of peace for others in a conflicted world.
Ask yourself: How often do I listen with the intent to understand rather than respond? What habit can I build that will help me practise empathy daily—in conversations, decisions, and relationships?
“Empathy is the quiet strength that builds bridges where walls once stood.”
Lord, help me to be present with compassion. Let empathy guide my words, actions, and decisions. Make me a vessel of peace and understanding in a hurting world. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
