"The Abundance of the Free Favour of the Lord." Luke 4:18-19
Hi Visitor,
Empathy heals what arguments cannot. When you truly understand someone else’s pain, the wall between you begins to fall. Empathy is not about fixing people; it is about feeling with them. This connection fosters healing.
Joseph’s story is a powerful example. After being betrayed by his brothers and rising to power in Egypt, he chose empathy over revenge. In Genesis 45:4–5, he said, “Come near to me... be not grieved, nor angry with yourselves, that ye sold me hither: for God did send me before you to preserve life.” He saw their fear but felt their sorrow. He forgave because he understood.
When you view others through the lens of their journey, not just their actions; you move from judging to healing. Relationships strained by misunderstanding can be restored when empathy becomes the approach.
Have you ever been misunderstood or hurt by someone close? What changed when they finally understood your perspective? Healing begins when people feel heard and seen.
Begin today by thinking of someone you have tension with. Ask: What pain might they carry that I have not acknowledged? Let this question shape how you approach them moving forward. Empathy softens hearts and restores connections.
Reflect on a damaged relationship in your life. What would change if you focused less on what was done to you and more on what the other person may be experiencing internally?
“Empathy is not agreement; it is understanding. And understanding is the first step to healing.”
Lord, teach me to feel what others feel. Give me eyes to see their wounds and a heart that seeks to heal. May empathy become my response, and healing the result. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
