"The Abundance of the Free Favour of the Lord." Luke 4:18-19
Hi Visitor,
Empathy is not about agreeing with someone; it is about understanding them. When you respond with empathy, you acknowledge another person’s pain, frustration, or struggle without minimising or dismissing it. This simple act builds trust. In conflict resolution, trust is the bridge that connects hearts and opens doors to healing.
Joseph demonstrated this in Genesis 50:20 when he said to his brothers, “But as for you, ye thought evil against me; but God meant it unto good…” Though betrayed and sold into slavery, Joseph responded with empathy and wisdom. He recognised their fear, reassured them, and chose relationship over revenge. His response restored the family.
Empathic response is not weakness. It is strength under control. It brings calm where there is chaos. It is the choice to elevate understanding above accusation and peace above pride.
Consider a time when someone responded to your pain not with advice or criticism but with quiet understanding. That response likely left a mark. Now reflect on how you can offer the same to others.
Empathy requires awareness. Today, pay close attention to someone’s tone, body language, and choice of words. Look beyond their message and ask, “What are they feeling?” Your thoughtful response could restore trust.
Is there someone who no longer trusts you because of a past reaction? Pray for insight and reach out, not to defend yourself, but to acknowledge their emotions and listen without deflecting.
“Empathy is the language of trust. It speaks not to fix, but to affirm.”
Lord, help me to respond with empathy, not ego. Teach me to build trust by hearing hearts, not just words. Let my presence bring peace, not pressure. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
